THE STEPS
- File >> New >> A4 Landscape (Resolution : 150)
- File >> Open …. Drag n drop to our A4 workspace.
- Apply Shadows and Highligts :

>> Adjustment >> Shadows/Highlights.
- Bring out the face or skin details : Unsharp Mask.
- “Create new fill or adjustment-layer” by clicking the icon. Choose : Color Balance.
- Balance the image’s colors by decreasing the value of dominating color. We want an image that is not too saturated (almost plain).
- CREATE A NEW LAYER, change its Blending Options to : OVERLAY.
- Now, paint the image :

Prepare your
color-palette : Black and White
·
Light areas à
White
·
Dark areas à
Black
·
To switch colors : “X”
·
Brush the main
structure of the face, nose area, eye-lids, lips, hair, and cheek-bone.
- Increase the contrast between the bright areas and the dark areas, by:

“Create new fill or
adjustment-layer” by clicking the icon. Choose : Curves.
·
Add 3 (three)
points : Top (set the highlights), middle (set the whole image), and bottom
(set the shadows).
·
Drag the top point
upwards
·
Drag the bottom
point downwards.
·
Drag the middle
point upwards.
- Finally, to once again reduce colours in the image :
·
“Create new fill or
adjustment-layer” by clicking the icon.
·
Choose :
Hue/Saturation.
·
Decrease the
Saturation.
If your image doesn’t have dark background:
- Create a new layer.
- Brush Tool, Mode : Color Burn, Opacity : 20%.
- Brush over the background few times.
